SUSTAINABILITY / PRINTING INFO
How are your products printed?
Our shirts are printed using DTG (direct-to-garment) technology. Essentially, your design is printed directly onto your shirt. The resulting image is often indistinguishable from a screen printed image, but one major advantage of DTG over screen printing is that there is zero overspray - no ink gets into the water supply.
Our neck gaiters are all-over printed using dye sublimation technology. All-over print products (also referred to as cut & sew products). In this case, your designs are printed on fabric, which then gets cut and hand-sewn into the product you ordered.
What kind of inks do you use for printing?
We primarily use environmentally friendly water-based pigment inks for our direct-to-garment (DTG) printing. GT-3 inks are CPSIA compliant and Oeko-Tex™ certified, which means they are safe to print on youth/children’s clothing and reduce environmental waste. Also, GT-3 inks provide a high washing colorfast AATCC rating of 4.
Is your packaging eco-friendly?
We try to do our best to minimize waste in packaging and source eco-friendly packaging materials. Many of our packaging materials are either recyclable or biodegradable.
Who manufactures your shirts?
Before they are printed on, the vast majority of our shirts are currently made by Bella+Canvas, as their manufacturing process and general business model exemplifies the high standards I've set for MerchOwl. Learn more about Bella+Canvas here.
In addition, I'm always looking to add more manufacturers to my arsenal that follow similar eco-friendly practices.
Where are your shirts printed?
We currently use two printers. Though the vast majority of our products are printed by Printful, we have another trusted printer that we work with for some other items. Having multiple production partners at our disposal allows us a great deal of flexibility in the event of product shortages or long production times (because of COVID-19, for instance.)
We are going to soon be expanding our apparel collections with a line of fashionable face masks and neck gaiters. The neck gaiters can already be found at our Etsy shop. The face masks will eventually be sold both here and at our Etsy, as well.
